Barts and The London | Dental Mums Network Student Board
Manar’s journey into dentistry is one shaped by resilience, determination, and quiet persistence. Originally from Italy, she moved to the UK at the age of 12 without speaking any English. Adapting to a new country, education system, and language came with its challenges, and she was initially placed into lower academic sets. But she was determined not to stay there.
Through consistent hard work, she gradually built her confidence, developed her language skills, and worked her way up. Her path to dental school was not immediate either. After sixth form, she did not receive an offer, so she took a gap year, reapplied, and successfully secured her place the following year.
Now in her fourth year studying Dentistry at Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry, Manar is navigating the challenges and rewards of becoming a clinician, bringing with her a deep appreciation for the journey it has taken to get here.
She believes that the obstacles she once faced have become the foundations of her resilience and drive. Her story is a testament to the power of persistence, self-belief, and showing up even when the path isn’t straightforward.
Manar joined the Dental Mums Network Student Board because she is passionate about the impact of mentorship, representation, and community within dentistry. She values the opportunity to connect students with experienced clinicians, create supportive spaces during training, and ensure the student voice is heard within a growing and empowering network.
